DiLinKer SlimSAS 8X to SlimSAS 8X, SFF-8654 74pin to SFF-8654 74pin Cable 70cm (SAST-1267-85)
DiLinKer SlimSAS 8X to SlimSAS 8X, SFF-8654 74pin to SFF-8654 74pin Cable 70cm (SAST-1267-85)
The same straight eight-lane SlimSAS link as our 80 cm cable, cut ten centimetres shorter for tight chassis. The DiLinKer SAST-1267-85 runs SlimSAS 8x to SlimSAS 8x (SFF-8654, 74-pin at both ends), specified for SAS 4.0 at 24 Gb/s per lane on 30 AWG ribbon. Choose this length when the run from controller to backplane is short and the 80 cm version would leave excess cable coiled in the airflow.
Why this cable
- SAS 4.0, 24 Gb/s per lane. Eight lanes for 24G HBAs, tri-mode controllers and Gen4-class PCIe backplane links.
- 8x to 8x, straight through. All eight lanes pass 1:1 — the correct cable for a host-to-backplane link.
- 70 cm for compact builds. Less slack in 1U chassis and short-reach layouts means cleaner routing.
- 30 AWG ribbon construction. Thin and flexible, easy to dress in dense chassis.
- Passive, no firmware. Nothing to configure — the link negotiates its own speed.

Compatibility
Works with
- Tri-mode and SAS 4.0 controllers with SlimSAS 8x ports, including Broadcom 9600 series.
- Boards with SlimSAS 8x headers (AMD EPYC and Intel Xeon Scalable platforms).
- SAS/SATA backplanes with SFF-8654 8x inputs, and PCIe NVMe backplanes using the same connector.
Does not work with
- MCIO (SFF-TA-1016) headers — similar pin count, different standard.
- MiniSAS HD (SFF-8643) ports — the older 36-pin interface.
- Drives connected directly. This is a host-to-backplane cable.
Typical deployments
- Short 1U runs. Controller to front drive wall without coiling the excess.
- 8-bay backplane link. One HBA port drives eight SAS or SATA bays.
- PCIe NVMe expansion. Feed a SlimSAS-input NVMe backplane from a Gen4 x8 root port.
Frequently asked questions
70 cm or 80 cm — which should I pick?
Measure the run and add about 10% slack for service and connector bend radius. If both lengths fit, the shorter one is usually the tidier choice; the specifications are otherwise identical.
Is this the same as the 80 cm version?
Electrically yes — same 8x straight wiring, SAS 4.0 rating and 30 AWG ribbon. Only the length differs. See the 80 cm version for the longer-run applications.
Can I use it for PCIe NVMe?
Yes. SFF-8654 carries both SAS and PCIe; 8-lane SlimSAS is a common input on PCIe NVMe backplanes. For PCIe 5.0 links, confirm the signal budget with the backplane vendor first.
Will a 12G backplane work from a 24G controller?
Yes — the link negotiates down automatically.
