DiLinKer SlimSAS 8X to 2x MiniSAS HD 4X NVMe Cable, SFF-8654 to 2x SFF-8643, Supermicro Purley, 80cm (Broadcom 05-60002-00, DL-A640)
DiLinKer SlimSAS 8X to 2x MiniSAS HD 4X NVMe Cable, SFF-8654 to 2x SFF-8643, Supermicro Purley, 80cm (Broadcom 05-60002-00, DL-A640)
The NVMe variant of the 8x SlimSAS fan-out, wired for one specific family of backplanes. This 80 cm cable converts a SlimSAS 8x host port (SFF-8654, 74-pin) into two MiniSAS HD x4 ports (SFF-8643, 36-pin) using the pinout Broadcom ships as 05-60002-00 (cable part 5067-6862) — the NVMe cable for Supermicro Purley backplanes. Those boards carry NVMe on SFF-8643 using an older legacy pinout rather than the SFF-9402 assignment, so a general-purpose SAS/SATA cable leaves the drives undetected.
Why this is the NVMe variant
- NVMe pinout, not the SAS one. PCIe lanes and sidebands are assigned for NVMe on the SFF-8643 end. This is the difference that makes a Supermicro Purley NVMe bay enumerate at all.
- Matched to Supermicro Purley backplanes. Broadcom lists this part specifically for Purley-generation NVMe backplanes. The original is built with white SFF-8643 connectors — that white shell sits on the backplane and is your cue there. Our cable uses dark connectors on both ends, exactly like the SAS/SATA variant, so the two are indistinguishable until you read the label.
- 8 lanes in, 2 × x4 out. Each MiniSAS HD port carries a full four-lane PCIe link. No switch, no retimer, no BIOS setting.
- One cable instead of two. A single 8x connector feeds both NVMe bays, halving the cable count across the airflow path.
- 80 cm of reach. Sized for 1U and 2U Purley chassis where the controller sits ahead of the NVMe cage.

Compatibility
Works with
- Supermicro Purley-generation backplanes with NVMe on SFF-8643 (the white connectors are on the backplane, not on the cable).
- Tri-mode and NVMe-capable controllers with SlimSAS 8x ports, including Broadcom 94xx and 96xx series.
- Systems where the existing cable is marked Broadcom 05-60002-00 or 5067-6862.
Does not work with
- SAS/SATA backplanes — use the 05-60003-00 variant; this pinout is NVMe-specific.
- NVMe backplanes built to SFF-9402 with SFF-8643 connectors — the sideband assignment is different, so use the 05-60001-00 or 05-60004-00 variant.
- Non-Supermicro NVMe cages until you check the pinout. Most newer cages use SFF-9402 and need a different cable; send us the backplane model and we will confirm.
Typical deployments
- Purley NVMe tier. Two NVMe bays fed from one 8x port on a 94xx or 96xx tri-mode controller.
- Replacing a lost OEM cable. A like-for-like spare for a system that shipped with Broadcom 05-60002-00 / 5067-6862.
- NVMe cache alongside SAS storage. A dedicated pair of PCIe links, separate from the SAS/SATA runs.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know whether my backplane needs this cable or the SAS/SATA one?
Look at the SFF-8643 connectors on the backplane, not on the cable. If they are white and the board is a Supermicro Purley design carrying NVMe drives, this is the cable (Broadcom marks 05-60002-00 the same way). If they are the usual black SAS/SATA ports, or the cage is double-plumbed for U.2 and SAS/SATA, you want the 05-60003-00 variant instead. Our own cable is dark on both variants and carries no colour code, so check the label: DL-A640 for this one, RSL74-7657 for the SAS/SATA version. Both fit physically; the wiring is what differs.
Your two 80 cm variants look the same — how do I avoid mixing them up?
They are the same assembly except for the wiring, and both use dark connectors, so they look identical in the hand. Go by the label on the cable, not by the connector colour. If a cable arrives unlabelled, or the labels get swapped in a parts bin, contact us with the order number before you install it: fitting the wrong pinout does no damage, but the drives will not enumerate.
What happens if I fit the wrong variant?
The connectors mate and nothing is damaged, but the drives do not enumerate: the host sees no link because the PCIe lanes or sidebands land on the wrong pins. If a new build shows empty drive slots, check the pinout variant before replacing hardware.
Will it work in a non-Supermicro NVMe backplane?
Only if that backplane also uses this older NVMe pinout. Most backplanes with SFF-8654 or OCuLink connectors follow SFF-9402 and need a different cable. Tell us the backplane model and we will confirm before you order.
Can I run SAS or SATA drives on it?
No. Broadcom classifies this part as NVMe-only. For SAS/SATA drives in an SFF-8643 cage, use the 05-60003-00 variant.
In the box
- 1 × SlimSAS 8x to 2 × MiniSAS HD NVMe cable, 80 cm — part number DL-A640 on the label (SKU B0B5CWK6V1)
Backed by a 24-month warranty. If a link trains at reduced width or a drive is not detected, contact us with your controller and backplane model numbers and we will confirm the correct pinout variant before you return anything. Quote the part number printed on the cable label — the two 80 cm variants look identical, so the label is the only reliable way to tell them apart.
