DiLinKer SlimSAS X8 to 8*SATA, SFF-8654 74P to 8*SATA 7P, SlimSAS Host/RAID to SATA Target HD, 85cm Cable
DiLinKer SlimSAS X8 to 8*SATA, SFF-8654 74P to 8*SATA 7P, SlimSAS Host/RAID to SATA Target HD, 85cm Cable
Break one SlimSAS 8x port (SFF-8654, 74-pin) out to eight SATA 7-pin drops. On a RAID or HBA card whose internal port is SlimSAS, this one assembly replaces eight separate SATA cables — eight hard drives or SSDs served from a single connector. It is the SlimSAS-generation successor to the classic SFF-8087 to 8×SATA fanout.
Why this cable
- 8 drives from one port. Eight SATA 7-pin drops share one SlimSAS 8x host connector.
- SAS or SATA capable. The link carries SATA and SAS traffic — the protocol is decided by the host port and the drive.
- Tidier airflow. One 74-pin run instead of eight loose cables across the chassis.
- 85 cm drops. Long enough for host-to-cage routing in tower and 2U builds.
- Passive breakout. No bridge chip — each drop is a straight lane to its drive.

Compatibility
Works with
- RAID and HBA controllers with SlimSAS 8x ports, including LSI/Broadcom 9300, 9400 and 9600 series.
- Boards with SlimSAS 8x internal headers.
- SATA and SAS drives with standard 7-pin data ports.
Does not work with
- SFF-8087 or SFF-8643 hosts — those need their own fanout cables.
- Direct backplane ports of a different standard; match the backplane connector first.
- Power — this cable carries data only; drives need their own power leads.
Typical deployments
- RAID rebuild. A SlimSAS RAID card driving eight SATA disks in a tower chassis.
- Cold storage arrays. Low-cost SATA spinners hung off a single 8x HBA port.
- Cable management refresh. Replace eight aging SATA cables with one managed fanout.
Frequently asked questions
Can each drop run at 6 Gb/s simultaneously?
Yes. A SlimSAS 8x link provides enough bandwidth for eight SATA drives at full 6 Gb/s — SATA traffic peaks well below the aggregated link capacity.
Will it work with SAS drives?
If the host port carries SAS and the drive side supports it, yes — the cable is protocol-agnostic. Check that your drive ends accept a 7-pin SATA-style data plug.
Is this the same as an SFF-8087 fanout?
Same idea, newer connector. SlimSAS (SFF-8654) is the SAS 4.0-generation 74-pin port; SFF-8087 is the older internal mini-SAS plug. They do not mate with each other.
Do the drops need power?
Yes — this is a data-only assembly. Each drive still needs a standard power lead from the PSU.
